Mishka the bear is making Aliya

by Hillel Israel | Jun 25, 2018
Bar Zimilis, a student at Ben-Gurion University in Beer Sheva participated in Hillel BGU's Masa Beikvot program. The program has inspired Bar to explore his Israeli-Russian-Jewish identity and now, with Hillel's support, he is writing a children's book based on his experiences as an ole, an immigrant, in Israel.

The book tells the story of a child named Mishka who is moving with his family from the FSU to Israel. The story follows Mishka's challenges and magical moments, and reflect the story of many "Olim" who moved to Israel from different countries: leaving the lives they know in the past, and curving their path into becoming a part of Israeli society.

The story is written both in Hebrew and Russian having the goal of reaching a wider crowed. Children to new Olim parents, non Russian speaking Israeli audience and more.

We are so proud of Bar for this important and inspiring initiative. We hope his book will help spread awareness and kindness. Thank you Bar for your courage to share your personal story as an immigrant child in Israel.

Please feel free to follow Bar's crowdfunding campaign here.
