  • Babushka and Me


    An article published in Laisha, Israel's leading women’s magazine, about Tzilumey Savta-Photographs of Grandma” at Hillel at Haifa University and the Technion. The project was a student-led initiative created by two students in “Hameyuhasim-Rod’N’ya,” through which Russian-speaking students study their personal Jewish roots and identity. Through Tzilumey Savta, participants documented their grandmothers’ stories and replicated photos through contemporary portraits of themselves. Hameyuhasim-Rod’N’ya is supported by Genesis Philanthropy Group. The article was published in March, 2017.

  • “Tzeva l’Hayim-The Color of Life”


    An article published in "Beer-Sheva Net" highlighting the “Tzeva l’Hayim-The Color of Life.” Initiative Tzeva l’Hayim is an initiative of students in Hillel Israel's Masa Beikvot program (a program supported by Genesis Philanthropy Group), which includes digitalizing and adding color to old family pictures so the pictures and the stories behind them will be preserved.   • How Shabbat Dinners Help Bring Together Students from Israel and Abroad


    An article about the "Friday in Beer-Sheva" program. The program is a series of Shabbat dinners hosted by Israeli students and attended by both Israeli students and students from abroad who are studying in the city. The program is a collaboration between Hillel at Ben-Gurion University and the Student Union and was initiated by students as part of Hillel's “Triple Amiyut-Peoplehood” program. February 16, 2017.

  • Simply Singing Radio Interview


    Israeli Radio Channel 88FM interviewed Hagai Hirshman, "Simply Singing" coordinator at Hillel at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. "Simply Singing" serves as an arena for mutual musical and cultural exchange between Arabs and Jews. It gives the participants an opportunity to put politics and conflict aside and to get to know each other on a personal level. The interview aired on October 22, 2015.

  • Interview with Vitaly Viler – The student leader behind the Once Upon a Kitchen Counter project


    Vitaly Viler is a student participant in Hillel's Phoenix program, supported by the Genesis Philanthropy Group. As part of his participation in the program he initiated "Once Upon a Kitchen Counter" ("Taam shel Paam") – a project which paired students from Hillel centers across Israel and the world with Holocaust survivors, and together they cooked dishes from the survivor's childhood before the war. The recipes were then complied into a new cookbook and now provide a glimpse into the kitchens of Jewish communities around the world. The interview was held on Israel's Holocaust Memorial Day, April 16, 2015.

  • A Taste of History: Students and Holocaust Survivors Get Together in the Kitchen


    VOI's Molly Livingstone is joined by 89-year-old Holocaust survivor, Elsa Epstein and the Director of Ben-Gurion University's Hillel center Odelia Shalev to discuss "Once Upon a Kitchen Counter," an initiative to bring together students and Holocaust survivors to share their favorite recipes and stories of survival -- while cooking. They explain that this is a way to remember our past and enjoy the taste of our future, and have created a unique cookbook in the process. The cookbook is being edited with the assistance of well-known chefs, who have tested the recipes and given their input. Proceeds from its sales will go to additional activities to benefit survivors.
