The Holocaust in Haredi Eyes - Hillel Sapir January 2015

"The Holocaust in Haredi Eyes" – In Israeli society there is the impression that ultra-Orthodox Jews do not respect Israel's Holocaust Memorial Day or the memory of the Shoa.  This creates much tension between ultra-Orthodox Jews and secular Jews in Israel. But is that impression correct? Students from Hillel at Sapir Academic College met with a group of Haredi men and women to discuss, for the first time and in person, what we each really feel about the Holocaust and how we respect its memory. The session included a short lecture about the Shoa in Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) society and was followed by small group conversations. The conversation in small groups allowed the participants to really open up, speak their minds, ask difficult questions and reflect on the responses heard. This was a very impactful and meaningful encounter.
This event was held in partnership with Hevruta-Ayelet Hashahar.
